"Of Plymouth Plantation"

In an excerpt from William Bradford's "Of Plymouth Plantation", although the puritans experience hardship in their voyage to America, in their initial arrival and in the dealings with the Indians, they still maintain their reverence to God and one another.
Passage to Note

"But though this
had been a day and night of much trouble and danger unto them, yet God gave them a morning of comfort and refreshing (as usually He doth to His children) for the next day was a fair, sunshining day, and they found themselves to be on an island secure from the Indians, where they might dry their stuff, fix their pieces and rest themselves; and gave God thanks for His mercies in their manifold deliverances. And this being the last day of the week, they prepared there to keep the Sabbath".

I choose this passage because it not only shows their faith in God but the faith to have a better day because there is know there is a God. The passage also shows how they acknowledge God in their struggles and make way to thank him.

Through Their Eyes

Today was bad and I never thought it would end. When night fell i thought the troubles would be over but no there was just no relief and just too much to bear. But by the grace of God he delivered us unto a new day like he does all of his children. The island that we found some salvation on is secure from those savage Indians relieving us of the stress gave time to rest and dry our clothes. Being this the last day of the week we prepared to keep the most holy day here and thank the Lord for what great blessings he has bestowed upon us.
Extending Through Political Cartoons

Often times when immigrating to a different country, one might learn that the hardships that are faced still don't outweigh the manifold benefits. For example, in the cartoon there are multiple signs encouraging and offering better . Likewise, in the excerpt "Of Plymouth Plantation" the new world or America offers the puritans freedom from religious persecution, which in turns offer them a better life. Another example from the cartoon of immigration is how there is only one sign discouraging the immigrants to not to compared to the multiple that do. This also compares to the puritans and their only struggle to survive even though the struggle to survive my seem hard the for them it still doesn't out weigh the freedom to worship to God because of their faith in him is so strong.

Anne Bradstreet

" In Reference To My Children"

The love and concern that Anne bradstreet is able to convey in her poem "In Referrence to My Children" captivated me and left the strongest impression. Even though this love and concern can be found in most of her other poems for different people and things, it is most powerful in this poem because of her attachment to her children that I can relate with my mothers own attachment to me. I also find it to be most fasinating that she is able to show her attachment while staying in her own beliefs but still has a sense of freedom.

Extention Through Political Cartoon

The right for women to vote evoked a transition that would be conveyed as unnatural to the "normal" family. As seen in the cartoon, the two children are bewailing to be with their mother as the father presented with a look of inadequacy. This proves how the children are naturally drawn to the love and comfort of their mother opposed to their father who is incapable to perform the duties of taking care of the children due to the lack of experience. Anne Bradstreet never really had the chance to just leave her children home with their father but instead her poems captivated the being a free mother and able to leave her children and her duties just for just a moment. Also depicted in the cartoon is a banner for womens voting rights. The banner is a symbolic represention of a womens freedom to vote and their transtion into the unnatural role as a working provider for the family. Much like Anne Bradstreet whos writting symbolizes her freedom and right to express herself.

Huswifery

In “Housewifery” Edward Taylor uses literary conceit, diction and rhyme to compare creating a cloth on a loom to gaining God's grace in order to obtain advancement into heaven.
